“Autumn Pastoral” – one of the two paintings ordered by Francois Boucher Finance Minister Louis XV. The second picture is called “Summer Pastoral”. The stories of both “pastors” were inspired by the pantomime artist of the prolific playwright Charles Simon Favard.
In this case, the picture shows a touching scene – a young shepherd feeds grapes Lisette, the main heroine of pantomime. This story was so fond of Bush that he wrote at least two more pictures of him, and the shepherd and Lisette eventually turned into porcelain figurines. We do not know whether Bushe himself made sketches for these figurines.
It is possible that the Minister of Finance, who had his connections with the porcelain manufactory, gave this order to some other artist. One thing is known: for years the shepherd and Lisette became the favorite heroes of the “masters of porcelain affairs”, not only in France, but throughout Europe. However, the playwright Favar “composed” the shepherd, the grapes and Lisette, was forgotten very soon.
