The form of the sketch, or rather, of a small picture, helped Korovin most fully express his attitude to the world, it was she who allowed the unique charm of everyday existence to be conveyed to the viewer. To affirm this in art is a big, important task, which only an outstanding master can cope with. More and more consistently Korovin put the solution of this task at the center of his art.
It is the rapture before life, before the charm of Russian nature, that makes up the main content of his works, like In the Country, The Girl on the Threshold and in the Summer. Ordinary motives are transformed into them in something not ordinary. On the threshold of the room, a woman washes her hands, but the daily routine of this occupation is not fixed by the viewer at all.
The main thing in the work is a demonstration of how the fresh morning air fills the room, as nature wakes up after night’s sleep, calling out to leave from the room to the fragrant garden, which opens behind the doorway. Silvery hues here are especially easy. They transmit the rays of the morning sun, which, penetrating into the room, slide on the floorboards, along the furniture, envelop the female figure. Due to this, it merges with the bright green of the garden into one inseparable whole.
