The well-known “Interior” is the artist’s most theatrical composition, depicting a man and a partially naked woman.
The plot of the scene remains a mystery. The analysis by the scientists of the literary works of that time, from which the composition may have been taken, did not yield results. The mysterious image is given by the masterful use of light and shadow.
