The Dutch painter Phillips Wouverman enjoyed tremendous success with the royal and princely houses of Europe. His beautiful landscapes, including genre scenes in which one could often see a white horse – the artist’s favorite motif, – evoked cheerful feelings, forced to admire the beautiful nature, captivated the viewer – this was the secret to the success of the artist’s paintings.
“Winter landscape with a wooden bridge” – a typical work for the master, sustained in the characteristic for the mature period of his work silver-gray colorful scale. Wouverman was born in Haarlem, studied under F. Huls and other Haarlem masters and worked all his life in his hometown.
In 1640 he became a member of the Guild of Painters. His works were popular and widely spread throughout the world. The great working capacity of the master contributed to the fact that the collections of his paintings are very extensive in various museums.
