Picture of Giovanni Bellini “Crucifixion”. The size of the picture is 81 x 49 cm, wood, oil. The love of accuracy in Giovanni Bellini is never limited to the allocation of an episode or a detail. In the painting “Crucifixion” some features have emerged that predetermined many of Bellini’s subsequent works.
On the one hand, there is a strictly verified perspective in the picture, mainly inspired by Antonello; on the other – an expanded space filled with an atmosphere that softens the volume ratio. In a beautifully interpreted interpretation of space, Bellini appeals to Antonello’s lessons and adds to them the geometric rigor of volumes.
Striving for a more precise elevated and monumental space, the artist at the same time uses purely pictorial effects anticipating the trends of the Cinquecento.
