
Madeleine Sophie Arnoux is a French actress and singer, the best soprano of her time.
At the age of five she first appeared before the queen and the marquis de Pompadour. She made her debut as an opera singer. At the end of her stage career Arnu became the hostess of the salon Sophie Arnoux.
Wit and intellect of her made the salon a favorite meeting point of the most prominent French thinkers, intellectuals – Voltaire, Diderot, Beaumarchais, and others.
