Portrait of A. A. Vorontsova as a Child by Dmitry Levitsky

The portraits of the Vorontsov girls, which were probably created for the family portrait gallery, are recognized as an exceptional phenomenon in Russian art of the 18th century. They amaze with the attention to the inner world depicted, amazing skill in the transfer of textures of various fabrics and fine harmony of color relationships.

Anna Artemyevna Vorontsova moved to Italy and, having accepted Catholicism, lived in Florence until the end of her days. Their four children became Catholics and were buried in Florence. Portraits of the Vorontsov family come from the collection of A. K. Boldyrev, the grandson of the younger daughter of A. I. Vorontsov – Praskovya Artemyevna Timofeeva.
