Peasant knits sheaves (according to Mill) by Vincent Van Gogh

Being in the hospital, Van Gogh created a number of works based on the pictures of other artists. The source for this was engraving Honore Daumier, Rembrandt van Rijn and, above all, Jean Francois Millet. Creativity Mille always inspired Van Gogh, and in the early stages of creativity served as a role model.

The simplicity and clarity of peasant life seemed to the artist some ideal world to which one should strive, but at the same time, excessive work and poverty caused in his soul a protest that made to portray peasants with all truthfulness, without a shadow of idealization.

This work is written based on a series of paintings by Mille “Field work.” Paintings with similar subjects Van Gogh wrote before, in the Dutch period of his work. But if the early work was done in a rather dark color scheme, now Van Gogh strives to make the color bright and clean, using contrasting combinations for this. The gentle azure color of the sky reflects on the golden field, which goes far beyond the horizon. The same bright blue dress is worn by a woman bending over the ears.

Van Gogh wrote to his brother that this work is given to him very easily. She was for the artist a certain lumen during treatment in the hospital.
