Morning Toilet by Lotte Lazerstein

Morning Toilet by Lotte Lazerstein

“Morning toilet” – one of the most interesting works of Lotte Lazerstein. Warm and soft colors in ocher-brown tones give the picture a special sincerity. And all these lovely details – from soft slippers to a toothbrush in a glass – create a vivid picture of life.

Looking at this young, confident young woman, you forget that this is a very personal process. From the picture emanates such cheerfulness and strength, it seems that the athlete’s naked body is now springy straight. The girl will dress, comb her straight short hair, will not linger long in front of the mirror, and will rush forward with business.

Here the type of “new woman”, which was so popular in Berlin of that period, is very vividly embodied, and the artist portrays them so heartily. The girlfriend and favorite tennis player Traute Rose posed for her sincere friend, we often recognize her in the best works of Lotte Lazerstein.

In this picture, the talent of the young artist is pronounced. Amazing colors – dark brown background and on it the beautiful body of a young woman, lit by the morning sun.

Sunlight and good mood infused canvas with such joyful highlights and shades… Lotte Lazerstein knows all the secrets of painting and is able to convey the complex pose of the model, while maintaining lightness, grace and youthful strength.

From the picture breathes such vitality, many years after the creation of the work, such energetics emanate that one involuntarily feels a surge of strength and the viewer rises in tone.

It is pleasant to know that after the death of Lotte Lazerstein was not forgotten, on the contrary, her works are popular all over the world and the best of them returned to her homeland in Germany.

In 2010, the New National Gallery in Berlin bought its central outstanding work “Evening over Potsdam or the Roof Garden”, and the famous Russian girl with powder box – one of Lazerstein’s best works – was acquired by the Frankfurt Museum Shtedel.
