Painting by French artist “Maturity”. The size of the painting is 34 x 45.5 cm, oil on canvas. In the foreground of the picture are two arrows, one of which shoots an invisible target in heaven. Behind the shooters, Lancre portrayed women engaged in blind man’s hide and love pursuits.
Such love pursuits and intimate encounters of young couples against the backdrop of wooded and park landscapes, which are depicted in the background of the painting by Lancre, were a popular theme in the 1740-1750s in the art of many “gallant festivities” artists inspired by the painting of Antoine Watteau, Nicolas Lancre and illustrated prints, created on the basis of their paintings.
The painting “Maturity” is the third canvas in a series of four canvases by the painter Nicolas Lancre, which represent the four ages of human life.
