Brushes of the Italian artist Caravaggio Belongs to six paintings, depicting the image of John the Baptist.
On one of them – “John the Baptist” – we see a young man playing with a small lamb. In his right hand he holds a bouquet of flowers, and gently holds the animal to his left. He clearly does not want a lamb to eat these flowers. It seems nothing says here that the future prophet is before us. And still. Look, at the feet of the young man a reed cross with a long thin trunk.
Through it, a silver ribbon with the inscription “Ecce Agnus Dei” is twisted. It is these words, as the Gospel testifies, John the Baptist said when he saw Jesus Christ coming to meet him.
