Painting of the Dutch artist Hendrik Averkamp “Ice Land”. The size of the picture is 25 x 38 cm, wood, oil. Holland of the 17th century witnessed the rise of the middle classes and the weakening of church influence because of the Protestant reform.
This led to the specialization of artists in easel paintings of small format, intended for a new market of frequent collectors.
Avercamp became famous for his winter landscapes, close in style to the analogous works of Jan Brueghel: his paintings were highly appreciated for the thin transmission of lighting effects. The artist Hendrik Averkamp was one of the founders of the realistic landscape painting of Holland of the 17th century.
