Isabella Flores, known as Rosa Lima, was born in Lima, Peru. She became the first canonized saint in the Western Hemisphere. In her early youth she made a vow of chastity and, with difficulty overcoming all the obstacles generated by the misunderstanding of her parents, she went her own way.
At the age of 20, she became the Dominican Tertiary and since then has lived alone in a small hut, which she built in the garden of her parent’s house. Rosa used the harsh practices of killing the flesh, and devoted her suffering to the conversion of sinners and missionary labors. Her great love for Christ was manifested in helping the poor and suffering. Roza was distinguished by a special veneration of the Mother of God and Christ in the Eucharist. Rose died in Lima on August 24, 1617.
