“Foggy morning,” one of the famous works of Volkov, was first shown at the 9th exhibition of the Association of Traveling Exhibitions and then was in the collection of the well-known in Russia Rumyantsev Museum.
The artist managed in a realistic manner to convey the atmosphere of the early morning, when the fog clouds envelop the trunks of trees, spread along the ground, making everything around damp, brownish-green and yellow.
The tranquil beauty of the motives chosen by the artists is reinforced by the vertical format of the canvas and a steady balanced composition.
In the interpretation of the landscape, Volkov is dominated by the desire for accuracy in the transmission of a complex natural phenomenon and the characteristics of a particular locality. In his landscapes, one should not look for emotional difficulties, the artist is content with the position of a somewhat detached spectator, which gives the landscape motive a hint of calm solemnity.
