Dress rehearsal by Michael Parkes

Dress rehearsal by Michael Parkes

Written in 2002, the picture Michael Parkes called the “dress rehearsal.” Once again we seem to fall into the magical world of Andersen’s fairy tales.

Here is a little man – either a jester, or a general juggles with balls, a thin gymnast stretched to a string on a pedestal next to a formidable stone lion. Of great importance in the work of the American artist is the image of purity, the image of the white swan – Michael Parkes’ favorite bird.
