Genre scene – two boys playing. Only a lamb and a cross in the hands of one of them, suggests that it is the Infant Christ giving the child to drink to St. John the Baptist.
Murillo’s special way of showing biblical scenes was very popular with his contemporaries. The artist seemed to say: “Look! These are real people who once lived in this World.”
