Painting by French artist Nicolas Lancre “Childhood”. The size of the painting is 35 x 46 cm, oil on canvas. Children play within the spacious loggia, rolling a little girl on a toy trolley. In the background, the picture of the nurse or, more likely, the nurse holding the baby in her arms, is watching the fun of the children.
The painting “Childhood” begins a series of four canvases by Lancre, which represent the four ages of human life – “Childhood”, “Youth”, “Maturity” and “Old Age”. This series of paintings was further engraved by a friend of the painter Nicolas de Larméssen; these engravings are known to have been released in July 1735, so it can be assumed that the paintings were painted by the artist Lancre in 1734-1735.
