Angelo Bronzino “The Archangel Michael”. Fresco of the Eleonora of Toledo Chapel in the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, ceiling painting, size 185 x 152 cm, detail. The artist began painting the capella from the ceiling, and these first murals can be described as “more Mannerist” than the following ones, for example, “Moses cuts the water out of the rock”, which is distinguished by virtuosic technique and mastiness.
The appearance of Archangel Michael turned out to be beautiful and heroic, and the image of the devil’s devil is vicious and caricatured. The palette, despite the emotional tension of the plot, is sustained in light, bluish-gray, joyful tones.
