The iconography of the Virgin, Mary at Murillo is traditional. But, apparently, the artist did not feel constrained by strict canonical frames, since each of his Virgin Mary is not like the other.
In this case, all the images of the Virgin, belonging to his hand, have common features – some elusive similarity in the context of the eyes, the outlines of the nose and forehead. Looking carefully at these faces, we find that Our Lady Murillo is always a native of Andalusia.
In these “Seville Madonnas” the naive and ardent faith characteristic of the Spanish people was embodied. Let us distinguish the master’s attitude towards the image of the Virgin Mary and the fact that he not only wrote the “traditional” Madonna, but also “illustrated” the different stages of Her life says.
