Monument à la Condottière John Hawkwood – Paolo Uccello

Le célèbre commandant engagé Sir John Hawkwood a mené l’armée de Florence à de nombreuses victoires. C’est de sa valeur de commandant que proclame l’inscription latine sur le piédestal.

Par la suite, la pose de John Hawkwood a servi de modèle au sculpteur Donatello, un ami d’Uccello. Il lui a “enlevé” la pose d’une autre célèbre condottière, les Hattamelates, lorsqu’il a travaillé sur sa statue.
