Kiev canvas “The Funeral of a Monk” refers to the typical works of Manyasco. Here, everything is characteristic of his temperamental, subjective manner – exaggeratedly extended figures of monks in white robes, their expressive expressive poses and gestures, a landscape with a dilapidated arcade and a restless, ghostly lit sky.
A dynamic stroke, mobile and abrupt, does not so much sculpt volumes and shapes, as it conveys their internal movement. The gloomy, almost picturesque monochrome gamma, rich in hues and semitones, perfectly fits the plot of the picture, its agitated, as if electrified atmosphere from within. Received from the collection of B. I. and V. N. Khanenko.
