Jean Étienne Lyotard is known as the author of exquisite, carefully executed, calm in color portraits and miniatures.
During the lifetime of the artist was a well-known master in many European capitals, he was considered a rival J. B. Chardin, but he did not make an official career. Lyotard spent his whole life traveling. He worked in Paris and Rome, Vienna and London, lived in Turkey for almost five years. Everywhere, wherever he was, the artist painted portraits, landscapes, created a series of travel sketches.
In the last years of his life, Lyotard turned to still life. His still lifes have the same grace in composition and color as other works of the master. The artist loved to work in pastel. Portrait of Mademoiselle Lavergne – one of the best works of the master, made in this technique.
