Giuliano Medici by Michelangelo Buonarotti

Giuliano Medici by Michelangelo Buonarotti

This is a sculpture of the tomb of the brother of the Florentine ruler Lorenzo the Magnificent. Giuliano Nemursky, brother of Lorenzo, although he was listed as a papal commander, but much more interested in poetry and art, was melancholic by nature.

Giuliano sits uncovered, with a rod on his knees, like a commander. The statue symbolizes pride, pride in his face and neck, in the ruin of his eyes, in the outlines of his nose, lips, hair. And at the same time, the whole figure of Giuliano expresses thoughtfulness, reverie.
