Painting by the French painter Nicolas Lancre “Garden Society”. The size of the painting is 99 x 132 cm, oil on canvas. The painting came to the Hermitage collection from the collection of paintings by Prince Yusupov’s palace-museum in 1925. In his work, Lancre turned to the same story lines as his elder comrade Antoine Vatto.
In his paintings, the artist portrayed the characters of the Italian comedy dell’arte, the scenes of “gallant festivities”; also created genre paintings. The artist Nicola Lancre also known as an illustrator of literary works of the famous French fabulist Jean La Fontaine.
