The paintings of de Chirico confuse even the modern spectator, experienced in artistic innovations. They surprise not only the mysteriousness of the positions, but also the frequent distortion of scale, due to which the usual things acquire a completely unexpected sound.
In the painting “Song of Love,” 1914, a monumental bust and glove are depicted, and the glove is comparable in size to the statue, and both of these are correspondingly with the wall of the arched building.
Similar distortions occur in later works of the artist – so, on the canvas “Fruit in the landscape” the fruits lying in the foreground break all the laws of perspective. De Chirico used this technique repeatedly, framing, for example, the landscape with room furniture or placing the whole house inside the room.
