Painting of the Swiss master of neo-classicism painting Angelika Kaufman “Countess Anna Stepanovna Protasova with her nieces”. The size of the picture is 123 x 159 cm, copper, oil. Protasovs – Count and noble family, according to the stories of ancient genealogists originating from the Moscow boyar Luke Protasievich, who was in 1330 an ambassador to Tver.
His grandson Grigory Protasievich, the Mtsensk voevoda, defeated the Tatars in 1423 and 1424, and in 1429 was traitorously captured by the Tartar prince Aidar. In the XVII century, many Protasovs were residents and solicitors. Stepan Fedorovich was a senator, while Yakov Yakovlevich was a lieutenant-general and a member of the military collegium. The lieutenant Pyotr Stepanovich, Grigory Grigoryevich and Alexander Yakovlevich – were senators. The widow of the latter, Varvara Alekseevna, nee Bakhmetev in 1801, was raised with children, Emperor Alexander I in the count’s dignity.
With the death of her younger son, Nikolai Aleksandrovich Protasov, the Count’s branch of the Protasovs ceased to exist, and this family name, with a title of count, passed to N. A. Bakhmetev. At the same time she received the Countess title of chamber-maid of honor Anna Stepanovna Protasova and her nieces. This genus Protasovs is included in the VI part of the genealogical book of the Moscow Orel and Tula provinces.
