Collage Technique by Alexander Rodchenko

Collage Technique by Alexander Rodchenko

Collages are characteristic of the early work of the artist, who was subsequently active in the field of cultural construction. At the beginning of his work, he turned to photography, he himself conducted surveys for collages, used photomontages. He called for “work for life, not for palaces, temples, cemeteries and museums.” Design and clear systems of construction were reference points for Rodchenko, he referred to art as an experiment, to the invention of new possibilities and forms.

The collage “Technique” was made up of colored clippings in the spirit of the objectless painting of the time. He was devoted to the triumph of technology, but this thesis is proved by a photograph of the driver with a sled – vehicles with a capacity of 1 horsepower. In this work, the inscription entered into it, taken from the ordinary postcard, is also interesting. She seems to be appealing to another, non-existent side of the collage, another space, where in some other dimensions the possibility of the celebration of technology has already been translated into real reality.

Thanks to the collages Rodchenko quickly gained popularity and created a reputation as an innovator, was noticed in the art circles of the new Soviet Russia. He considered collages understandable for Soviet revolutionary art and used them when creating leaflets, campaign posters, illustrations.
