Russian artist Konstantin Dmitrievich Flavitsky Imprinted the biblical story “Joseph and his brothers” in the painting “The Children of Jacob Sell Their Brother Joseph.” Excited by a considerable profit, the brothers, it seems, completely forgot about Joseph, just sold them into slavery. Located not far from the moat, they gladly count silver coins. And at this time the merchants pull out the bound Joseph and place him on a camel. According to the animated expression of their faces, vigorous gestures and poses, one can judge that they are quite happy with the goods they have purchased. Soon they hope to profitably sell it in Egypt.
The contrast of the composition and the rich color scheme of the picture only strengthen the drama of what is happening. Poor Joseph does not have to count on the mercy of his brothers. Busy in their work, they do not even look in his direction. Against the background of their bright red and white clothes, the pale and exhausted Joseph seems even more helpless and defenseless. When the caravan left, the brothers stabbed a kid, smeared the clothes of Joseph with blood and brought it to Jacob. His father cried bitterly, for a long time he remained inconsolable in his grief.
The painting brought KD Flavitsky a large gold medal of the Academy of Arts.
