Wooded Shore by Isaac Levitan

Wooded Shore by Isaac Levitan

The painting “Wooded Coast” was painted by Levitan I. I. in 1892, in the style of realism in oil on canvas. The plot reflects all the beauty and love for the native nature.

The painting depicts twilight. The endless watery surface makes us think about life and what surrounds, to plunge into the atmosphere of peace and kindness. Winding, a wide river, goes beyond the horizon. It is quiet and calm, like the whole forest, which froze as if waiting. Nature is not mobile and lively overnight, everything goes on as usual.

The author used two extremes, one of which is to depict a steep bank, the other – a quiet and peaceful beach. These opposite sides perfectly complement each other, and are combined into a whole composition. Thanks to the dried-up stumps, the plot is filled with a special flavor, which is understood by each in its own way.

The water in the river is dark with an unusual greenish tinge, it glitters against the setting sun, the sky is completely covered with clouds, the impenetrable forest stands still. The author uses warm colors, which gives the plot kindness and serenity.

Yellow paint causes a feeling that the coast is actually showered. That is indeed the talent and skill of the famous artist! The Russian land radiates heat, warming both the body and the soul. Through the landscape, without even realizing it, you begin to think about the meaning of life, about eternity, about love for the motherland.
