Painting by Italian painter, master of the Bologna academic school of Guido Reni, “The Parable of Susanna and the Elders”. The size of the painting is 126 x 101 cm, oil on canvas. This story is taken by the artist from the apocryphal books of the Old Testament.

Guido Reni portrayed how virtuous and beautiful Susanna decided to take a dip in her garden, at this moment two elders approached her, who were longing for her and trying to solicit love joys from Susanna. Otherwise, the elders threaten to accuse Susanna of adultery and debauchery.

She refused the elders and was falsely accused of debauchery, but later Susanna’s innocence was established and the truth triumphed. Lodovico Carracci also wrote versions of paintings on the plot of “Susanna and the Elders”, it was believed that this work belongs to him. Only in 1984 it was finally established that this picture was painted by Guido Reni.
