Orchestras by Raúl Dufy

Basics of painting Raul Dufy studied for eight years – four years in Le Havre and four years in Paris. Both of his teachers were academic artists, and they both saw the drawing as the foundation on which the artist’s work was built.

Most likely, the young Dyuffy was rather uncomfortable in such a strict framework, but in the future the skills acquired in this “scholastic” period were very useful to him. The fact that Dufy – a gifted draftsman, it was clear to his teachers from the very beginning.

He demonstrated the feeling of the line throughout his life, beginning with a simple, traditional self-portrait painted in 1897, and further, through impressionistic paintings, book illustrations and drawings for the fabric to the works of the last period.

The best drawings Dyufi created in the early thirties, when he finally gained his style and self-confidence. Among them, the most notable are “Actor Dinelli”, 1935, “Circus horses”, 1931 and “Orchestras”, 1935.
