Nude by Salvador Dali

Nude by Salvador Dali

There are no flashy, sharply contrasting colors. The main colors are gray, reddish, terracotta, soft golden. The background – coastal rocks – a little blurred, and the woman’s body is drawn accurately and confidently, with solid lines. Clear contours make the drawing volumetric, bring it closer to the viewer. In the same technique, the bedspreads, carelessly thrown to the ground at the feet of a woman, are painted.

The sitting model has a beautiful body and full breasts. Her face is hidden from the viewer. Rather, it is outlined schematically, with a few strokes, and leaves behind the top section of the picture. The hairstyle is also indicated only by a single chestnut curl that falls on the neck. Initially, the picture had two sides.

On the back was written the work “Bather”. Both paintings were donated by Federico García Lorca. Subsequently, the paintings were divided. But if the “Bather” phantasmagoric, then in the “Nude” the artist even flaunts a realistic technique. And at the same time, both compositions were not connected by chance. They are united by a common theme: a naked woman, a seashore.

We can assume that these are two sides of the same coin. One image, reflected in different ways and refracted in the imagination of the artist.
