Nenuphars by Isaac Levitan

Nenuphars by Isaac Levitan

Judging by the sketches, this motif drew Levitan. In an effort to make water lilies an independent subject of the image, Levitan writes them straight down from the boat, so that the horizon is somewhere far above, outside the picture, and it transmits the surface of the water with flowers and leaves lying on it without algae.

It turned out an original work that you will not call either a landscape or a still life in the true sense of the word. It really is still life…
