Lullaby by Adolf Bugero

Lullaby by Adolf Bugero

“Lullaby” – a picture of the master of the academic school of painting Adolf Bugero was written in the second half of the XIX century. It seems unlike a large collection of the artist because of the special tenderness of the plot. Being the author of works with biblical heavy motives, Bugero wrote his “Lullaby”, replacing the usual role in a light family fairy tale.

The theme “Lullaby” can be associated with the loss of their own children by the artist at an early age. So, not knowing the happiness of paternity in full, Bouguereau could pour out his warmth and love for the child through canvas and oil.

The plot of the picture is clear and close to the viewer. She captured the scene, perhaps the most amazing and sweet – the child’s cradle. The lullaby pours softly under the rustling of white wool in the fingers of the young mother. My son has already fallen asleep, but the woman continues to rock the old cradle with her bare foot. Her eyes are fixed on the boy: “What does the son dream about?”. There is a lot of warmth and silence here.

A nook of nature hidden in the shade of a tree spinner with an infant. The features of a woman’s face are pure and frank. This face of the era when the poor walked barefoot, hand-rolled the yarn, and the children were rocked in low beds among the forest cool so easily.

The work is interesting not only for the idea. It reflects the features of the philosophical time of rationalism and the ennobling of nature, logic and enlightenment. The nature and orderliness of all the components of the “Lullaby” are understandable to the contemporary. Do not think through the idea. You just have to enjoy the contemplation of the beautiful letter. Despite the fact that the work belongs to the genre painting, occupying the “low” bar on the hierarchy of academism, “Lullaby” in the framework of contemporary art is especially valuable. Its value lies in human emotions, which most of the paintings of that era hold back.

It turns out that dry “rationalizers” were close and caring, and trembling feelings of love, warmth and family values. In the meantime, watching the baby’s quiet sleep, you can just shut up and listen, listen to that lullaby that sings the silent canvas of Bouguereau.
