Landscape Arno by Leonardo da Vinci

In addition to studying the models, usually located in the artist’s studio, Leonardo also learned to make sketches of nature, important for future works. This sketch was executed when he was still an apprentice.

In the upper left corner, in his own characteristic mirror letter, it is written: “on the day of snow – the miracle of St. Mary, August 5, 1473” This sketch only shows the valley, surrounded by hills, the horizon, and, with a small effort of imagination, the sea. Probably, first a sketch was made in a pencil from nature, and then – a pen and ink.
