Interior Design by Guy Johnson

In the painting “Interior Design” by American artist Gaius Johnson, as on the stage, we see a room that is conditionally divided into two parts.

At the door is a lady in a red dress, apparently the mistress of this abstract room. The situation, obviously, reflects the woman’s psychological state, the confusion and duality of her worldview. Pillows on the carpet, on the coffee table – a vase with flowers…

In one part of the room everything is beautiful and right – this is her life, intended for outsiders’ eyes, for society, and in another, as in a distorted mirror, her second life, where everything is completely different – and even her own reflection is distorted by a mirror. Whether the white toilet seems to her comfortable chair, or the white armchair, on the contrary, it seems at times an ugly toilet.

The absurdity of this situation the artist expressed the spiritual discomfort of a woman in a red dress and the seeming appearance of orderliness and well-being.
